It’s just tree rings in a stump, so why does it look so stellar (in the astronomical sense)?

I think it’s all those tiny “stars” (white flecks) in the rings pattern which we’ve come to believe is what space looks like from TV/movie animations! 🙂
Also the look in those currently trendy night sky photographs of the Milky Way.
