Notice, or should I say let me point out, that in addition to the firmly planted pointer in the foreground there is a balanced rock pointing skyward in the mid-background as well.

Little Butte

The scale of this image is confusing to me, and I’m the one who took the photo. At first my eye tells me this is a large butte off in the distance; then I notice the brush growing around it which establishes it as just the small hunk of ground that it is. But as soon my eye travels back to concentrate on the butte itself, the scale jumps back to large again. Weird. I didn’t intend this to be one of my Little Landscape series of images but it perhaps should be.

Nobody knows for sure what ancient petroglyph symbols really mean, so you’re free to make up your own interpretation of them. Or so said a display about them that I read at a visitors center one time. I tend to agree with that thought.

The only photo I took at Archie Bray simply for it’s color, a lovely and unusual patina. It’s more peach or perhaps salmon color than pink but I couldn’t make a decent or applicable alliteration out of either of those two words.
