Moving Toward Entropy #1 Bozeman, Montana 2013

There are very precise definitions of entropy in the context of statistics, information theory, and physics; all of which can apply somewhat to what I’m trying to explore this new series of photos. But I think it’s more aptly described by two related definitions I found in the Merriam-Webster Dictionary:

a : the degradation of the matter and energy in the universe to an ultimate state of inert uniformity

b : a process of degradation or running down or a trend to disorder.

I have more photos related to this theme and I’ll post them with some further explanation, as soon I flesh it out further in my own mind; it’s a pretty nebulous idea at this point.

This artist who sits in Szentendre day after day selling paintings to tourists apparently has a lot of slow days so one day painted the painting you see in the propped on the wall middle of the photo. It’s a little hard to see but it’s a painting of his spot on the street, complete with the painting of his spot on the street propped on the wall, which of course contains yet another painting of his spot on the street propped on the wall, etc. etc. etc. As an artist who often sits at art shows with a lot of downtime between customers, I can appreciate what he’s done to alleviate the boredom. Waiting On You All Budapest, Hungary 2011

The cloak room at one of the museums in Budapest. We were there in the off-season and also apparently at an off-hour as well. By contrast, in Paris this last spring, the cloakroom at the Louvre was refusing to check any more coats or bags for lack of space.]]>

The Grand Entry, in which everybody at the Pow Wow slow dances around the arena at the same time is one of the most impressive colorful displays I think I’ve ever seen. It’s a real kaleidoscopic treat for the eyes.
