Here’s a challenge for the engineer/scientist types out there. Given the exposure for this photograph was 1/20s, estimate the speed this bicyclist was traveling. My first calculation was 82mph. I think I need to go back and revisit my assumptions. In the meantime, Happy New Year!

A view through the Fisherman’s Bastion. I think it’s funny how this structure is described in some of the travel books. It is a striking structure but they talk about it almost as if it were sort of a fake Disneyland kind of thing because it was only built a mere 110-120 years ago instead of in the medieval age whose architecture it characterizes. I hope I get more respect than that when I’m 110 but I probably won’t–my architecture is no where near this impressive.
