This is the third figure in Damian Radice’s  sculpture called Discussant Group. The main reason I showed this sculpture in two separate images (the other presented yesterday) is because it was hard to present all three characters effectively in a single image as this one was separated in distance (horizontally and vertically) a bit from the other two. Given that practical issue, and noting that the three characters seem to be yelling at each other without stopping to listen, it seemed even more appropriate to separate the images as it’s quite symbolic of the kinds of political “discussions” that go on in this country these days.

Empty Lair

On our previous trip to Death Valley, I had seen a big flock of vultures, a.k.a. a wake, a kettle, or a committee of vultures in the line of brush and trees. But alas, on two visits this time around, I came up empty in regard to vultures. But this rather foreboding shot did offer some compensation for looking.

I found this little twig on a walk around our campsite in Death Valley one afternoon. Why it appealed to me enough to not only photograph it but to carefully pack it up and bring it all the way home to Montana is a mystery to me.
