I climbed to the top of a hill near where we were camping after breakfast one morning and was greeted by these starkly lit ocotillo plants just beginning their daily dose of solar power.

Earlier this year I posted some photos of the Kofa mountains from our visit there in December, 2022. I was very intrigued at the time by the changing shadows as the clouds moved past the mountains. We stopped there again just last month and were again treated to some changing shadows. Although not quite as dramatic as they were the year before, I still was draw to photograph them again even after telling myself I didn’t need to given I’d done that already the previous visit.

Seeing Things–Hard Life

After photographing the building in yesterday’s POTD, I came across this one. Since my mind was already thinking of faces, I saw one here too. This one reminded me of the cruel insult I learned as a kid; that of describing someone as looking like they combed their face with a hand grenade. I think it’s far less cruel to use the phrase to describe this building’s human-like features.

This building reminded me of two things. One is dogs with one blue eye and one usually dark eye. The other is the face of a Kachina doll, e.g. this one:

I was cleaning the nozzle on a can of spray paint when this creature appeared on the cardboard I was using as a backdrop.

Same window, same bird feeder, same camera setup–but a different day with different lighting so there were no noticeable reflection issues compared to yesterday’s post.
