Besides the rustic wooden look to this grain elevator, it stands out literally in it’s surroundings as its a few miles from town on a dirt road with little other evidence of civilization around.
Imagine how many trees they had to cut to get enough lumber!
It seems all the grain elevators in these parts have the same design. I wonder if it was regional or if all of them from that era were similar in size and shape.
Probably more trees than you might think, as these wooden elevator walls are often formed by stacking and nailing together flat 2x6s or 2x8x or wider. Many of them are of similar design but especially when you include metal elevators, there are many styles. Three or four are visible right here in Bozeman.
