When you’re mowing your lawn with an old push reel lawnmower, you need a handy chair near by to take needed breaks. My father had one of these way back when I was a young kid. Fortunately, when I got old enough to be asked to mow the lawn, he’d moved on to a power mower.
Note that this photo could have also been included in part of my Patriot’s Dream series, but the chair is what first caught my eye so I went with that.
I remember “having” to use one of these push mowers for a couple of years when I was a lad. Fortunately the four different homes we lived in had very small yards like most are in San Diego. After I left home Dad bought an electric mower. A few decades later I had a sitting mower.
From a sitting mower I guess the next step forward is one of those robotic mowers, or of course move somewhere where the HOA takes care of all that for you.
And we did move to an old folks patio home where they do everything for you including lawn maintenance. It’s fun to sit there and watch them.
In town our HOA takes care of the mowing and snow removal. In the summer it amounts to 2 days a week of almost constant noise of mowers, weed-eaters, and blowers on our and all the other houses in the hood. The noise is quite irritating. For some reason I find such noise easier to tolerate if I’m the one making the noise. Anyway, I’ve had thoughts of going on a crusade to get the HOA to require the contractors use battery operated equipment only, or at least for the weed-eaters and blowers with their particularly noxious high pitched screams. But I’m sure such a crusade would fall on the deaf (from listening to all the noise) ears of the HOA board.
