What are these “light floats” made of? From this photo it appears that people “walk” or “carry” them almost as if they are the big balloons in the Macy’s Day parade.
I believe they are made of tissue paper over wire frames, and people to carry them rather than inflate them like balloons. That they are carried plus light up of course is why they’re called lanterns rather than floats. I think they are very much modeled after techniques used by the Chinese in their New Year’s parades (sans the lights in many cases).
