Chantilly Lace
Virginia City, Montana
2026
The delicate lace curtains placed in the context of the rough hued boards and logs makes for quite a contrast. Whether or not the lace curtains actually came from Chantilly, France, they point to another example of residents trying to bring a bit of their former more orderly and refined environment to the wilds of a Montana mining town.
This will really date me but as soon as l saw the title of today’s POTD I heard Jerry Lee Lewis singing the song. I like the image – agree it’s quite a contrast. Makes you wonder what the inside looks like.
Well, count me as dated as well–it was the Jerry Lee Lewis song that I thought of when naming this photo. I almost included a link to a YouTube video of the song but didn’t for some reason.
So why didn’t you add the music? I can hear it already.
Well, if you can hear it, posting it would be redundant wouldn’t it? 🙂 The artspeak reason for not including it is that it doesn’t fit well with the comparison of the refined old world France and the rustic new world log cabins architecture that I was trying to make. The real reason is more likely related to laziness on my part.
