I’m enjoying the colorful, clean, simple scenes in this series! I’m curious as to how you chose Ajo as a place to spend a part of your winter. Was it because of its proximity to Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument?
I’m glad you’re enjoying the series Carol. As far as the choice of Ajo goes, it being near Organ Pipe was tangentially a factor. We like Organ Pipe because it is beautiful Sonoran Desert country, much like what you see around Tucson, but with far, far few visitors. The Sonoran desert environs there extend outside the park up to and around Ajo, making it a great place to spend some time. But the major reason was the small town setting. We spent two months in Tucson three winters ago and as much as we did like about the place, it was way, way too big for our tastes. There are fewer than 3,000 permanent residents in Ajo compared to Tucson’s one million plus. There is not a lot in the way of amenities in Ajo, but we get by with the few local stores and services, supplemented by occasional trips to Buckeye, the closest major commercial area.
They would indeed–if they were on the shady side of the house. But unfortunately that particular spot would receive full sun during much of the hottest part of the day, making it into an oven I think. It would be a good spot late in the afternoon or on a chilly winter day though.

The shade and cool blues seem like they would be very welcome on a hot desert day!
