POTD: Concentricity

Concentricity

I thought I made up the word concentricity to describe this image, and my spell checker certainly thinks I did. But it turns out it’s an engineering term used in geometric dimensioning and tolerancing in manufacturing processes.

  1. Aside from the word, I love the image and am intrigued by what formed the circles. At first I thought rain but it doesn’t look like it’s raining.

    1. Thanks Judy. Your initial guess is correct–the circles are due to rain. It was sprinkling at the time. We have a “herd” of goldfish in the pond who often also make concentric circles when they rise to feed on the surface, but this day it was all rain I believe.

    1. Thanks Kathy. I’ve taken a number of raindrop on water photos over the years (as have many other photographers). Here’s one of my favorites I call Bucket of Rain. It’s from a film negative back in about 1972.
