POTD: A Place for Contemplation (Home Ground #26)

A Place for Contemplation
Bozeman, Montana
2024

This bench sits on the slope above our pet graveyard. It overlooks not only the graveyard but also our entire “homestead,” so it’s a good place to take a break from time to time and just look out over our domain. It’s a relaxing place but also one of motivation because I’ll be sitting there looking at our house, outbuildings, lawn and ponds and while I’m enjoying what we’ve done I will also notice two or three upkeep projects I really ought to get to, and that gets me up and moving again.

About 35 years ago when I was a fairly busy young man I bought a string hammock in Mexico that I imagined I would someday hang between my backyard trees and snooze through a warm afternoon. I still come across that hammock occasionally when cleaning/sorting in the garage but I have never hung it up. Now that I am mostly retired and in the fall of my life (I hope), I don’t work hard enough or feel the need to snooze away in the daylight hours I have left…

    1. Maybe you could make use of it as a hammock of contemplation rather than snoozing, cuz everyone needs some contemplation sometimes, especially now.
