Well, Happy New Year to you all. At least I’m hopeful you will each find your own happiness on a personal level in this year 2024. I’m confident I’ll remain blissfully happy when I’m able to stay in my own little world. However as far as the future of the national and international situations go (which are “desperate as usual” to quote Tom Robbins), I’m pretty sure I’d like to follow Alice down this rabbit hole and spend some time in Wonderland rather than read the news every day for the next year.

The gargantuan cottonwood next to our house will be euthanized in a couple of days. It has a hole a lot like the one in your photo, only not so perfectly shaped. It’s sad to have to say goodbye to such an old beauty. And, thanks to you, I now realize I’ll have no rabbit hole in which to hide from the realities of the world.
Happy New Year to you too Carol. Sorry to hear about your cottonwood tree. We have a not nearly so big one growing next to our house in town that has been half dead for years. The neighborhood HOA tree lady really wants to cut it down, but we keep chasing her away. We like it because it provides good cover for birds near our feeder. I wouldn’t be surprised to see the tree gone when we return in March. I hope not though.
