POTD: Views From the Pond #16

Views From the Pond #16

Years ago we planted a single aspen tree sapling next to our pond. It has grown to about 25 high over it’s life so far and we now have multiple new aspens that have sprung from its spreading roots. All these aspens came from that same first tree and grow close together in similar soil with similar moisture availability; so why is the the only one that turns red instead of the usual aspen yellow in the fall?

  1. I don’t know the answer to that question but I am enjoying all the colorful images of the pond plants – which I’m guessing are now maybe blanketed in snow?

    1. You guessed right Judy. A couple of days ago we got about a foot of snow. It’s not unusual at all to get snow here in October, even early October but it’s quite unusual to get that much snow in the first storm. It’s warming up nicely now though and we’re hoping the warm weather sticks around long enough to clear the snow out for a while before it sets in for good.
