Rather than choosing the obvious Paul Simon lyric “I Am A Rock” title for this little series I went with the slightly less obvious next line from the same song. Another, non-Simon, choice would of course have been “Last Man Standing” but how do I know if these balance rocks are all male rather than female?

POTD: A Perfect Product

I’ve been watching this sign on an old grain elevator for almost 40 years now and photograph it every once in a while as well. I’m sure it has faded some over the years but I am surprised it doesn’t seem to have changed that much. At least my memory tells me that it was quite faded the first time I saw it. (I have not dredged up the old photographs to try and confirm that.) I’m guessing now that the elevator will succumb to the wrecking ball of Bozeman’s “progress” (i.e. rampant growth) before it fades away entirely.

POTD: Perennial Bloomer

Contrary to it’s looks, this “Calfe,” famous for it’s oddball and demanding written instructions to patrons as much as it is for it’s greasy-spoon food, actually opens for business every once in a while. Or at least it did; I guess you never know when it’s going to be the last time. That it has opened at all in recent years is more than I can say for the actual small stockyard it sits next to. I don’t go by there everyday but I have never seen it open in all the years we’ve lived here.
