Elevations Gallery Talk and New Venue
In conjunction with my ongoing exhibition, Elevations: Exploring the Architectural Beauty of Grain Elevators, at the Wichita Art Museum in Wichita, KS, I will be giving a gallery talk at the museum on Saturday June 13 at 1:00 p.m. The exhibit itself continues through July 19. Admission to the museum is free on Saturday's so it's a great time to view the exhibit. Further information is available by going to the museum’s website here.
The Elevations exhibit continues to attract new venues. After showing in Wichita, my home town growing up (and several other venues), it will come to The Emerson Center for the Arts and Culture in my current home town of Bozeman, MT late in 2010. There are still dates available in late 2009 and early 2010 so if you'd like to see this exhibit at your favorite gallery or museum and have contacts there please feel free to put them in touch with me.

Two of the photographs from my Ghost and Empties collection have been selected for the inaugural exhibition of the Montana Triennial this summer at the Missoula Art Museum in Missoula, MT. The museum's website describes the exhibit this way:
Biennials and triennials around the world are intended to function as survey exhibitions of contemporary art that represent the cutting edge art created in a particular region, with works typically chosen by a respected juror or panel of jurors from outside the region. Montana and its cultural institutions have never attempted to host such an all-encompassing exhibition before, but following the reopening of the extensively renovated museum in September 2006, MAM felt uniquely positioned to host this significant regional survey within the new galleries.
Missoula Art Museum's first 2009 Montana Triennial will be hosted at MAM from June 26 to September 24, 2009. This important juried exhibition will feature the artwork of emerging and established professional artists living and working in the state of Montana. MAM's Montana Triennial will consist of 88 works created by 60 artists, and will represent a full range of media, style, and theme. In honor of the exhibition, MAM will publish a full-color, documentary catalogue featuring the exhibiting artists, their work, and an interpretive essay by Montana Triennial juror Beth Sellars.

International Color Awards
Black and white photography is my greatest passion, but I can and do work in color as well. My color photograph of an old building in Butte, MT won a commendation in the architecture category in the International Color Awards Third Annual Master's Cup competition sponsored by Sony. The photograph will appear in the 2009 Sony World Photography Awards Winner's Book.

My latest project Bare Trees: A Collection of Visual Short Stories that I introduced in my last newsletter will be published in LensWork and LensWork Extended #82 (the next issue, out soon). The work can be previewed on the Lenswork website once the issue is published. Note that Lenswork is no longer available on newsstands or in bookstores. It can only be purchased by ordering from their website. (Single issues as well as subscriptions are available.)
This is my third portfolio of work to be published in LensWork, following my elevator and ice abstract portfolios that appeared in LensWork #75 last year. (The elevator photos appeared in both LensWork and LensWork Extented. The ice abstracts were only in LensWork Extended.)
The Bare Trees portfolio will appear on my website soon. At that time I also hope to introduce for purchase a complete collection of these visual short stories comprising over 90 images in a manageable form. Prints of single images from the collection will also be available. Below is preview of the title page for one of the short stories, Drifting. Along with the image on the title page, there are six other photos of driftwood in this story.

Below is my art show schedule for this summer. These are all juried shows and jury results have not yet been announced for three of the shows. These are marked tentative in the table. If you come to one of the shows and mention you are a subscriber to my newsletter, it's worth 10% off any purchase.

For this newsletter's special print offer, I have chosen one titled Moiré Swan. This photo was taken in Killarney National Park, County Kerry, Ireland on my recent trip there. The swan was pecking rapidly at the water where some girls had thrown some Cheerios to feed them a little bit earlier. Backlit by the sun, the ripples created an interesting Moiré pattern on the water.
The image was converted to black and white in Photoshop and then a slight warm tint was applied. It is printed on InkjetArt Micro-Ceramic Luster paper using Epson archival K3 inks.
As before, for this newsletter special, I am offering a 9"x 13" print of this image, matted in an acid free white mat to 16"x20". This size mat fits standard frames available just about anywhere that sells frames (in the U.S. anyway) so no custom framing is required. I normally sell this size print for $95 including shipping on my website. For this newsletter special, the price is $50, including shipping to anywhere in the continental U.S. (Shipping outside the U.S. will require adding the actual cost of shipping to the $50 price.)
The cutoff date for this offer is May 30, 2009. Depending on when you order the print, there may be a bit of a delay in shipping due to my art show schedule. At the latest, they will be shipped by the end of the month.
To purchase this print using a secure internet transaction, go to the purchase page by clicking here.
Note: If the print is to be mailed outside the U.S., you must contact me by email regarding additional shipping charges before paying with an internet transaction.
If you would like to purchase this print, but do not want to complete the transaction over the internet, feel free to contact me at the email address on my contact page and we can arrange payment by check or other means.
