Many plants and animals exhibit unusual, sometimes striking characteristics–their own unique adaptions to their environment, courtesy of the evolutionary process. Growing out in the middle of fruit orchards in the Central Valley, the height of these palms trees seems a needless but showy extravaganza.

It’s been snowing for two days now. It is not that cold out though so the pristine look of new snow will not likely last long. This has been happening a lot in recent years so I’m trying to learn to get out and photograph it (as well as ski on it) quickly before it turns to mush.
