Limited Edition Prints

All photographs 12”x18” or larger are sold only as limited edition archival pigment ink prints.  Each edition is limited to 50 numbered prints, plus up to five unnumbered artist’s proofs.  (Open editions in sizes smaller than 12”x18” may also be printed.)  Images are printed on Epson Exhibition Fiber or similar paper using Epson Ultrachrome inks, producing prints with longevity exceeding 200 years in dark storage and over 100 years on continuous display when properly framed and lighted.

Each limited edition photograph is carefully printed and mounted using museum quality archival material including a 100% cotton 8-ply conservation window mat and an acid free foam mounting board.  Both the mat and mounting board are treated to neutralize external pollutants and remove harmful chemicals.  The mat and backing board are hinged with linen tape.  Acid-free polypropylene mounting corners are used to mount the photo, allowing the print to be removed from the mounting without harm at any time.

Each limited edition print is signed and numbered on the print itself as well as the mat.

Most of the images you see on the website are available as limited edition prints in two sizes, 12"x18" and 16"x24". To order a specific print, enter the name of the image (as indicated on its web page) in the space below. If the image selected is unavailable, I will let you know immediately and you will not be charged. (You can also inquire by email or phone as to the availability of a specific image prior to ordering.)

Framing available. You can also order you print framed and ready to hang. I use matte black metal picture frames by Nielsen.  Made from the highest quality aluminum molding, Nielsen frames are anodized for maximum durability and long-lasting beauty. Their clean, sleek, minimalist lines are at home with a wide range of décor and surroundings. I use Nielsen Profile 97 which is rectangular in cross section, approximately 1" wide and 3/4" deep. The framing also features Acrylite acrylic glazing, a high quality framing grade acrylic that is more optically pure and lighter weight than glass.

Opus Corvus Folios

opus: a creative work
Corvus: (zoology) type genus of the family Corvidae that contains crows and ravens

Crows and ravens are both revered and reviled. They are one of the few avian species to thrive in the presence of man, using intelligence and adaptability to survive. Their feats of sometimes ruthless ingenuity, along with their trickster traits in the pursuit of their goals are nearly unprecedented in the animal world. It is perhaps because these traits remind us uncomfortably of ourselves at times that crows and ravens have earned a significant place in art, literature, and religion over the millennia. Along with their persona the jet-black color of these birds leads to artistic depictions that are at times dark, nebulous and mysterious but also to startlingly and iconically graphic images. The Opus Corvus folios I have created add my own personal impressions to the large body of work about these ignoble yet sublime birds.

What are folios? Brooks Jensen was the first person to use the term folio in reference to a body of photographic work in a particular format he developed. I have followed his general approach (which he graciously teaches) in producing the Opus Corvus collections. In short, a folio is a collection of unbound, but sequenced prints that is presented along with ancillary material (e.g., title page, introductory text, colophon) in a presentation folder. It is meant to be perused much like a book, with the ability to view the prints up close and to enjoy the tactile feel of the fine art paper on which they are printed. (While designed to be viewed in this manner, the photos are of archival quality suitable for framing as well.)

Each Opus Corvus folio contains ten prints plus a cover image and several pages of accompanying text material.  Each of the ten images is 5"x7.5" or 5.5"x5.5" printed with generous borders on 8.5"x11" paper. Prints are produced using archival inks and acid-free100% cotton rag paper with no optical brighteners. This produces a stable image capable of lasting generations. The presentation folders are made of 100lb acid-free cardstock, with a die-cut opening with an embossed border through which the cover image is visible.

Folios are produced in signed and numbered (but not limited) editions.

Opus Corvus I: On A Dark Wing

On A Dark Wing depicts crows as mysterious and darkly surreal inhabitants of a world that exists primarily in our peripheral vision, perhaps as much the stuff of dreams as reality. You can view the full folio contents here

Opus Corvus II: Crowheart

Crowheart presents crows and ravens in a variety of poses and moving shots, suggesting a myriad of personality traits. But one wonders whether or not they really possess those personalities. Perhaps they are just birds being birds and by being anthropomorphic in our interpretations we are saying more about ourselves than them. View the full folio contents here

Elevations Book

This book was designed to be a companion publication to my traveling exhibit of grain elevator photographs, Elevations. Twenty-six of my favorite images from the exhibition along with a short introduction are presented in the 8”x10” book. The full set of images included in the book can be seen here

This is not a press-printed book; instead it is a bound collection of actual high-quality duotone photographic images printed on Fuji Crystal Archive photo paper, a profession quality paper with a high dynamic range and excellent resistance to fading. The photographs are bound in a laminated hard cover using a lay-flat binding process that facilitates viewing of the images.

Bare Trees Mini Portfolios in a Presentation Tin Case

Bare Trees (which can be seen in detail here) is a portfolio of over 80 photographs divided into nine thematic photo-essays, or chapters, with short introductions by the photographer. Each story deals with a different artistic interpretation of the many forms of bare trees in the natural world. These images were published in LensWork Magazine and LensWork Extended, Issue #82 in May 2009.

Each of the nine chapters of Bare Trees  is available separately as a portfolio of miniature photographic prints. While diminutive in size, this collection is crafted with the same quality and attention to detail as more traditionally sized prints. The images are carefully printed on archival luster paper, hand trimmed, wrapped in velum, and fitted in a 5" x 5.5" (approximate size) presentation tin box.

The boxed photo sets are intriguingly eye-catching and intended to be held for close inspection. They are a unique alternative to coffee table books and make great gifts for those with an appreciation for fine art photography but little wall space for hanging new art.

Photo Sampler in a Hinged Presentation Tin Case

A small portfolio of a dozen of the most popular photos that I sell at art shows.  While diminutive in size, this collection is crafted with the same quality and attention to detail as more traditionally sized prints. The images are carefully printed on archival luster paper, hand trimmed, wrapped in velum, and fitted in a 5" x 6" (approximate size) hinged presentation tin box.

The boxed samplers are intriguingly eye-catching and intended to be held for close inspection. They are a unique alternative to coffee table books and make great gifts for those with an appreciation for fine art photography but little wall space for hanging new art.
